Sky Terrace 428 Tickets – view from the observation deck over Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline

For the best views in Hong Kong I’d book the Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 428 combo, which costs $19 and is rated 4.5 from 364 reviews. The terrace is 428 m above sea level, on the roof of the Peak Tower. The cheapest option is also the free lookouts nearby, and the priciest is a $159.26 private walk. I’d go about an hour before sunset, in the clearer months of December to January.

Every Place for the Best Views in Hong Kong

Two ticketed spots answer this search, and they sit on the same hill: Victoria Peak, with its guided tours, and Sky Terrace 428, the paid platform on the Peak Tower. The best views in Hong Kong from here take in Central, Victoria Harbour and Kowloon. Wikipedia lists the hill at 552 m, and the terrace height comes from its Peak Tower article. Prices are the cheapest listing on GetYourGuide for each.

Spot Height Open-air? Price from Top ticket rating Page
Sky Terrace 428 428 m (terrace) Not stated in my data $19 4.5 from 364 Tickets
Victoria Peak 552 m (hill summit) Yes, a public hill $64.34 4.93 from 15 Tickets

The two numbers are not the same kind of height. The 552 m is the summit of the hill, while 428 m is the platform you actually stand on. They are only 0.10 km (0.06 miles) apart in a straight line, so the best view in Hong Kong is really one trip with two stops.

1. Sky Terrace 428: My Pick for the Best View in Hong Kong

The terrace is the one I’d book first for the best view in Hong Kong, because it is the paid platform at the top of the Peak Tram and it costs less than any tour. Google Maps puts it at 1 Lugard Rd and lists it open 8:30 am to 10 pm, with a 4.5 rating from 4,182 reviews. According to Wikipedia, the tower was completed in 1997 to a design by Terry Farrell, and Wikipedia also warns that air pollution often hides the view, so a clear day matters. The full detail is on my Sky Terrace 428 tickets page.

  • 24-hour ticket

My pick: My default for the Hong Kong view: $19, 4.5 stars from 364 reviews, with the tram, terrace entry, Madame Tussauds and the evening light show in one 24-hour ticket.

The listing says the ticket is valid for 24 hours and sends you to the pre-purchased ticket holder queue, which saves a step at the tower. The ticket is non-refundable. That is the one thing I’d weigh before buying, because a foggy afternoon cannot be moved, so I book it once I have checked the forecast.

2. Victoria Peak: The Guided Way to See Hong Kong From Above

Victoria Peak is the hill itself, and the best views in Hong Kong from it are free if you walk or ride up on your own. The tours are for people who want a guide or the lights. I rank the Shaohua night tour first at $64.34 for 2.5 hours, rated 4.93 from 15 reviews, since it includes the Peak Tram admission and spends about 20 minutes at the top. The TripGuru private walk costs $159.26 for 3 hours and has no reviews yet, so I treat it as a route and not a track record.

My pick: My pick for the lit-up harbour: $64.34, 2.5 hours, Peak Tram included, 4.93 stars from 15 reviews. Terrace entry is not included.

Neither tour includes Sky Terrace 428, so you would pay for the terrace separately if you want the platform as well. The Peak Tram itself, per Wikipedia, opened in 1888. My Victoria Peak tickets page covers what each tour includes.

The Victoria Peak Pavillion is 0.77 km from the terrace and The Peak Galleria Rooftop Terrace only 0.14 km, so both fit into the same walk. Kowloon Peak Viewing Point is the far one, 11.68 km from the terrace, and a separate outing.

Best Time for the Best Views in Hong Kong

Both spots share a hill, so the best views in Hong Kong depend on the same weather, and one year of weather covers them. In the 2025 data from Open-Meteo, January was the clearest month at 33 percent cloud cover, then December at 44 percent and October at 56 percent. June was the cloudiest at 88 percent, with July at 85 percent. Sunset ranged from 17:39 in November to 19:10 in July.

What time should I book for sunset?

–

book this entry time (50 min before sunset)

–

sunset, Hong Kong time

–

typical cloud cover that week

Sunset and cloud cover for the same dates in 2025 at the deck (Open-Meteo historical weather (ERA5), 2025); sunset moves by about a minute between years.

My rule is to arrive 45 to 60 minutes before sunset. October to January gives the best odds in this data, and the early sunsets make the light show easier to fit in as well.

How Far Can You See From the Peak?

At the terrace height of 428 m, the best views in Hong Kong reach about 73.9 km on paper. The calculator below lets you test other heights. In summer, haze and cloud above 80 percent limit the view long before geometry does, so choosing the day matters more than the extra metres.

Best Views in Hong Kong Beyond the Peak

The Peak is not the only answer to the best views in Hong Kong. Down at harbour level, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel is rated 4.3 from 14,524 reviews on Google Maps and is 1.96 km from the terrace. It shows the skyline from the front, where the Peak shows it from above. I have no ticket data for it, so I will not quote a price. My view is that the Peak and the harbour complement each other, and the best views in Hong Kong come from seeing both once.

Can You Do Both on One Visit?

Yes, easily, and it is the way I’d plan the best views in Hong Kong. The terrace and Victoria Peak’s listing point are 0.10 km (0.06 miles) apart from the Google Maps coordinates, and Lugard Road Lookout is 0.85 km (0.53 miles) from the terrace. My plan would be to take the tram up in the late afternoon, spend the daylight on the terrace, then walk to the lookout and stay for the lights.

I would not book the night tour on top of the combo for the same evening. They cover much of the same ground, and the tour’s time at the Peak is only about 20 minutes. If you want a guide, choose the tour. If you just want the view, the combo is the cheaper way to get it.

What the Tickets Cost

Prices for the best views in Hong Kong run from $19 to $159.26 across three paid options. The combo at $19 buys the tram and the terrace, the night tour at $64.34 buys a guide and the tram but not the terrace, and the walk at $159.26 buys privacy and a longer route. The gap between the combo and the night tour is $45.34.

How I’d Choose the Best View in Hong Kong

I’ve kept this to one line per kind of visitor, so you can find the best views in Hong Kong for your trip quickly.

If you can only afford one thing, I’d book the combo. If you have a free evening, I’d add Lugard Road Lookout on foot for the best views in Hong Kong without another ticket.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best view in Hong Kong?

For a first visit I'd choose the view from Sky Terrace 428 on Victoria Peak. The platform is 428 m above sea level per Wikipedia, and the Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 428 combo costs $19, rated 4.5 from 364 reviews. Google Maps rates the terrace 4.5 from 4,182 reviews. Pick a clear day, since cloud decides how good the view is.

How much does it cost to see the Hong Kong view from Victoria Peak?

The hill is open 24 hours per Google Maps, so the view from the free lookouts costs nothing. The paid options in my data are the $19 Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 428 combo, a $64.34 night walking tour with the tram, and a $159.26 private walk. I have no plain tram fare, so check the operator's site for that.

Is there a free place for the best views in Hong Kong?

Yes. Google Maps lists Lugard Road Lookout at 4.7 from 2,405 reviews, only 0.85 km from the terrace, and Mt. High West Viewing Point at 4.6 from 1,338. I have no entry rules for them, so check locally. They are not as high as the terrace, but they show the same harbour and skyline.

When is the best time to see the Hong Kong skyline from the Peak?

About 45 to 60 minutes before sunset, which fell between 17:39 in November and 19:10 in July in the 2025 Open-Meteo data. You then see the city in daylight, at dusk and lit up. The clearest months were January at 33 percent cloud cover and December at 44 percent, while June reached 88 percent.

Can you do both Victoria Peak and Sky Terrace 428 in one visit?

Yes. From the Google Maps coordinates the two are only 0.10 km (0.06 miles) apart in a straight line, because the terrace sits on the Peak Tower at the top of the hill. The $19 combo covers the tram and the terrace, and I'd then walk to Lugard Road Lookout for a free second angle.

Is the Peak Tram worth it for the Hong Kong view?

I think so. Per Wikipedia the Peak Tram opened in 1888, is about 1.4 km long and takes an average of five minutes, so the ride is part of the experience. The $19 combo includes it with terrace entry, and the $64.34 night tour includes the tram admission too. A walking tour does not, because you climb.

Which view of Hong Kong is best at night?

The terrace and the lookouts on the Peak show the lit harbour, and the $19 combo adds the HSBC Life Illuminations show outside the tower at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 pm per the listing. The $64.34 guided night tour is built around the lights, with about 20 minutes at the Peak. Check the operator's site for the current show schedule.
