Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky is a choice between a 1958 lattice tower and a 2019 open-air rooftop. I’d book Tokyo Tower for the lowest price, from $9.49, and its 250 m Top Deck, and Shibuya Sky for an open-air sunset beside the Scramble Crossing, which on GetYourGuide means a guided tour from $72.51. The Shibuya Sky roof is about 228 m, so the tower is a little higher, but the rooftop is the one with no glass.

Both are in Tokyo and only a few kilometres apart, so the Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky decision is about what you want around you: an iconic structure you also see from below, or a roof among the skyscrapers. Prices, ratings and inclusions come from the GetYourGuide listings I checked in October 2026, in US dollars. On height, Tokyo Tower wins, and only if you take the Top Deck. Its Main Deck at 150 m is lower than the Shibuya Sky roof, but the Top Deck at 250 m is higher, and the horizon distance from that height is 56.4 km, using the standard horizon formula. The official listing text also says Tokyo Tower offers views of Mount Fuji on sunny days, which I can’t promise for any date.
Shibuya Sky wins on openness. You stand on a roof with no glass between you and the crossing, which is the picture most people have in mind. In the Shibuya Sky vs Tokyo Tower view contest, I’d say the tower gives you the red lattice as part of the scene on the way up, while Shibuya Sky gives you the neon at street level. The two also look at each other, since the tower is near enough to appear in the Shibuya Sky view.
It is a lattice tower inspired by the Eiffel Tower, and is painted white and international orange to comply with air safety regulations.
Money is where Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky differs most. Tokyo Tower sells a plain admission on GetYourGuide for $9.49, while every Shibuya Sky listing there is a guided tour that includes or builds in the visit, from $72.51 to $120.25. The cheapest way up is $63.02 less at the tower. The official Shibuya Sky site sells its own timed tickets, so check it for the plain price before you decide the gap is that wide.
For Tokyo Tower I’d start with the admission: rated 4.63 from 4,558 reviews, with the Top Deck available only when you pick the Top Deck tour option. It is non-refundable, so book it for a date you are sure of. A Main Deck QR pass costs $16.04, but it has only 2 reviews. For Shibuya Sky I’d start with the Alva Japan sunset or night walk at $91.70, rated 4.87 from 94 reviews, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

If you want the cheapest guided route to the rooftop, the Shibuya pop culture walk with a Shibuya Sky ticket is $72.51 and rated 5 from only 12 reviews. The most reviewed is the $92.59 night view tour, 4.71 from 166 reviews. I treat any rating from fewer than 20 reviews as a signal, not a verdict.

I have no live queue data for either. Tokyo Tower has more Google Maps reviews, 101,619 against 27,432, which suggests a bigger crowd, but I can’t turn that into a wait time. Shibuya Sky is timed-entry, and the sunset slots are the ones that sell out, so book those first.
For Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky timing, sunset is the same within a minute at both, per 2025 data from Open-Meteo: about 16:29 in December and 18:58 in June. I’d arrive 45 to 60 minutes before it at either. The clearest months were January and February, at about 35 to 38 percent cloud cover, and May was the cloudiest at 86 to 87 percent. Tokyo Tower stays open until 11 PM and Shibuya Sky until 10:30 PM, per Google Maps, so the tower gives you a little more time after dark.

Sunset and cloud cover for the same dates in 2025 at the deck (Open-Meteo historical weather (ERA5), 2025); sunset moves by about a minute between years.
The Tokyo Tower admission is a simple deck ticket, valid for 24 hours according to the listing. The Top Deck at 250 m and the VIP lounge come only with the tour options that name them. Wikipedia dates the tower to 1958, and the lights at night, which the listing says run from sunset to midnight, are part of the appeal. It suits someone who wants a view without a schedule.
A Shibuya Sky tour is more than a lift ticket. The listings I compared are two to five hours long and cover the crossing on foot before or after the roof, with a guide. That suits a first evening, when you want orientation as well as a view. The catch is that you pay for the guide whether or not you wanted one, and the walk sets your timing.
Weather matters more than the Shibuya Sky vs Tokyo Tower choice itself. The 2025 Open-Meteo data shows cloud cover averaging 35 to 37 percent in January and February, against 86 to 87 percent in May and 78 percent in October. On a cloudy day Tokyo Tower still has its lit lattice and the lights of the streets below, and Shibuya Sky still gives you the crossing, which does not need a long view.
If the forecast is poor, I’d move the booking. The Shibuya Sky tours cancel free up to 24 hours ahead, so you can wait for the forecast. The cheap Tokyo Tower admission is non-refundable, but at $9.49 it is cheap enough to rebook.
In the Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky choice, this is how I’d split it by visitor type.
Yes, and for Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky you don’t have to choose, because they are close enough to make it easy. By Google Maps coordinates they are 3.93 km (2.44 miles) apart in a straight line, so a short train or taxi ride joins them. I’d go up Shibuya Sky at sunset and Tokyo Tower another evening, or the tower first for a cheap look at the city and the rooftop the next day. Doing both costs at least $81.99 using the cheapest listings above, $9.49 for Tokyo Tower and $72.51 for a Shibuya Sky tour.
If you want a third, the height option is Skytree; see my Skytree vs Tokyo Tower comparison and my Shibuya Sky vs Skytree comparison. Check the official sites for holiday hours and current prices before you go.
After weighing Tokyo Tower vs Shibuya Sky on height, price and mood, I’d call it for Tokyo Tower if price or the 250 m Top Deck decides it, and for Shibuya Sky if you want the open roof at sunset and don’t mind a guided tour. If I had one evening and good weather, I’d choose Shibuya Sky; with a tight budget, the tower.
I'd go at sunset and stay into the dark, so one visit gives you daylight, gold and city lights. Sunset falls between about 16:29 in December and 18:58 in June, per 2025 Open-Meteo data. The Shibuya Sky listings I compared offer both sunset and night departures, so choose by the season.
GetYourGuide sells no plain Shibuya Sky ticket. Every listing is a guided tour that includes or builds in the visit, from $72.51 to $120.25. The official Shibuya Scramble Square site sells its own timed tickets, so check it for the plain price. Tokyo Tower is the cheaper entry, with admission from $9.49.
Skytree is much higher, with decks at 350 m and 450 m against 150 m and 250 m, while Tokyo Tower is cheaper at $9.49 and closer to the centre. I'd book Skytree for height on a clear day and Tokyo Tower for the evening. My full Tokyo Skytree vs Tokyo Tower comparison covers the details.
I think so, mainly for the price and the atmosphere. The Main Deck admission is $9.49 and rated 4.63 from 4,558 reviews on GetYourGuide. Google Maps rates the tower 4.5 from 101,619 reviews. It is the older, lower view with the city around you, and it stays open until 11 PM.
Allow about one to two hours for the Main Deck, which is my estimate and not an official figure. Add time if you pick the Top Deck tour option, which reaches 250 m. I'd arrive 45 to 60 minutes before sunset, so you see Tokyo in daylight and then lit.
The listings I compared run 2 to 5 hours, because they are guided walks that end on the roof. The time on the roof itself is about an hour in my plan. The official site is the authority on timed entry and last admission, so check it for your date.
They are 3.93 km (2.44 miles) apart in a straight line, computed from Google Maps coordinates. That is a short train or taxi ride, so doing both on the same trip, or even the same day, is realistic. They also appear in each other's views.
